dig deep and push out that last rep?
or fitness models?
to get CutAndJacked?
How and when did you start training?
Very hard to remember! Pretty sure I was doing pressups and situps from the age of 6 and I did a hell of alot of tree climbing, I had a fascination with monkeys so I thought if I did loads of pullups and climbing I'd be able to cut through the trees like them one day, my dream has yet to come true sob sob. Proper training started at the age of 10 that's right no sitting on my ass playing computer games for me. I was massively into sports as a youngster; football, boxing, rugby, athletics and alongside that my dad used to take me and my older brother's to the gym. He used to thrash us till we threw up, rope climb after rope climb till we literally couldn't lift our arms, I loved it!!! The best advice I could ever pass on to a kid would be start training as soon as possible whether it be pullups from your door frame or joining a local sports team. The key is to getting your body's muscle activated and working hard from as soon as possible.
What mistakes did you make as a newbie?
To be honest I'm not going to lie I didn't make any mistakes! If anything I used to spend too long in the gym around about 2 hrs which is way too much especially when running 3 miles too and from the gym. I'd say 1 hour of hard weight training is ample, as long as you don't spend half of that talking about how fit the chick was you pulled at the weekend or how crap your job is! Shut up nobody cares, you’re in the gym so get under that weight and lift.
We know consistency is key, what tips would you give to anyone struggling to stay consistent?
I suggest they fix up!!! When people don't see results they get slack, you can't just hit the gym hard for 2 months then think "Oh I'll have a rest for a few weeks now!" If you want to achieve your goals you have to stick with it, it's not a hobby it's a way of life! So you either train like a machine or keep your ass at home.
Do you listen to music whilst training?
I love music to the extent of where it’s kind of becomes a problem. If I'm listening to good tunes in the gym it gets me hyped up which in turn gets me in the mood to go out and party arghhhhhh it's a very tricky dilemma train silent or train to some naughty house tunes then be tempted to have a crazy night.
What do you think about when you have to
dig deep and push out that last rep?
Let's get absolutely massive! When it comes to lifting the big weights playtimes over, time to release some serious testosterone I'm pretty sure when it comes to my last rep I have 5X the amount of a silver back gorilla maybe 6 who knows.
Free weights vs machines what do you feel are the pros and cons of both and which do you prefer?
Are you even asking me that question!? I think it's safe to say free weights hands down. Although saying that, the Hammerstrength machines are awesome they’re a kind of hybrid between freeweights and machines. My back and chest workouts would be lost with out them! I would say machines are good for beginners as a way of getting used to lifting heavy weight with less risk of injury, but if you want to be one of the big boys get yourself on the free weights asap!
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of becoming a royal marines commando at the age of 16 it's 32 weeks of arduous military training known to be the hardest and longest infantry course in the world. Just a quick insight, one of the final commando tests is running 30 miles over mountainous terrain with a 40lb ruck sack and a weapon. The determination I show in the gym stems from my days, as a commando where giving up just wasn’t an option!
Do you bulk and cut or stay lean year round?
I stay cut, jacked, shredded, stacked and extremely good looking all year round it’s standard procedure for David McIntosh lol don't know why I put Lol because I'm deadly serious.
What types of cardio do you do?
I used to do so much running but that was hindering me from getting bigger, so now I cut out the long distance running to sprint sessions and I do high intensity weight lifting sessions for example I would super set heavy bent over row with pullups no rest.
What is your training routine like?
My training regime is all over the place, there is no set routine to the madness I do, all I know is when it's gym time I'm going to be shifting a hell of a lot of weight and pushing my body to the limit. I change my routines regularly as to make sure every single muscle is getting worked. A quick look at something I would start with on my chest is this:
60Kg bench 20 reps full, 20 reps midway to the top, then 20 reps from the chest to midway. Jump straight off the bench into the pressup position and repeat what you did on the bench but in sets of 10. In total it's 60 reps on the bench and 30 pressups no rest!! You do this 3x through with minimal rest between sets.
What is your diet when trying to get in peak condition?
I'm not going to tell you I eat healthy all the time because that would be a lie I love pizza and a whole lot of other stuff you probably shouldn't eat when trying to be super lean but hey life’s for living. If you have to eat grilled chicken, brown rice and broccoli for every meal to stay lean then your obviously training like a sissy at the gym. If I was advising someone on a diet plan I would say eat many small meals like 5, but that's not me I probably eat 2 meals max a day, everybody is different and personally I can still put on lean muscle from eating relatively nothing, you just have to find out what works for you. When cooking though the food I eat is always fresh and organic never ever will you catch me eating a frozen ready meal! The best purchase you can ever get is a juicer they are worth their weight in gold, I don't cook vegetables I put all my organic vegetables and fruit in a juicer/blender. In one glass I squeeze in more veg then I'd even contemplating eating in 1 week.
Who are your favourite athletes, bodybuilders
or fitness models?
Although I love training and fitness there isn't anyone I follow or admire but if I had to choose someone I'd probably admire myself lol just playing. Arnie is number 1 for me not just due to his immense physique but his whole persona. He was someone who was dedicated to training but didn't let it stop him from having fun, which is very important!
What supplements do you use if any?
I’m sponsored by NRGFUEL I use there TTP anabolic it's a wicked all in one. I'm not a fan of taking loads of different pills. A good diet and a good protein shake are more than enough.
What top 3 tips would you give to anyone wanting
to get CutAndJacked?
1. Eat very little carbs there is no need for them, if you want to be as ferocious as a tiger then I suggest you eat like one. Red meat is a must have for me the rarer the better
2. Super setting is the way forward, follow up those big power exercises with an own bodyweight exercise. For example straight after a set of weighted squats do 20 tuck jumps.
3. Set yourself fortnightly realistic goals it could be trying to improve your 1 rep max bench, your max rep count on 100kg deadlift or how fast you can row a 1000m basically change it up constantly. This will be sure to make you an all round titan!
